Tabs and panes

Every table, editor, diagram and object page opens as a tab in a strip above its pane.

Tab strip

  • Drag a tab along the strip to reorder it.
  • A dot on a tab marks staged table edits that are not applied yet (Unsaved table edits).
  • Mod-w closes the current tab, and does nothing when no tab is open. Reopen closed tab (Mod-Shift-t) brings the last one back.
  • Ctrl-Tab and Ctrl-Shift-Tab cycle through the tabs, from inside the SQL editor too.
  • Mod-1 to Mod-8 jump to that tab, counting along the strip and skipping collapsed groups. Mod-9 jumps to the last tab. Inside the terminal the keys stay with the shell.
  • Switch to tab… in the command palette lists the open tabs.
  • New tabs open After the current tab or At the end of the group, set by Open new tabs in Settings, General.

Tab groups

Right-click a tab:

  • New group, or Group selected tabs when several are selected.
  • Move to group, Remove from group.
  • Close tab, or Close selected tabs with several selected, Close tabs to the left, Close tabs to the right, Close other tabs.

Right-click a group's label:

  • Rename, Change color.
  • Collapse group folds its tabs into the label, Expand group shows them.
  • Ungroup keeps the tabs, Close group closes them.

Panes

  • Split pane right… (Mod-d) and Split pane down… (Mod-Shift-d) open a second pane. These two shortcuts cannot be remapped. With the cursor in the SQL editor the same keys belong to the editor, so click the tab strip or use the palette.
  • Drag a tab onto the edge of a pane to split there (Drop to split).
  • Drag the divider between panes to resize them.
  • Closing an editor pane inside a split with unsaved SQL, a running query or an open transaction asks the same questions as closing its tab.

Restore and quit

  • Restore open tabs and panel layout, on by default, reopens your tabs and splits at the next launch: editors, tables, ER diagrams, designs, object pages, and the result pane beside an editor without its rows. Each loads when first shown. A tab whose connection, design or object is gone says so and offers Close tab.
  • On quit, staged table edits open their review first. An editor with a running query or open transaction offers Cancel query and quit or Roll back and quit.
  • Quit Seqora? then lists editors whose SQL is not in a file, with Cancel and Quit anyway, while Confirm before quitting with running work is on. An empty Untitled editor, or one that still holds only its starting text, does not count. A query still running with no editor open is listed whatever the setting says.
