Result pane

The result pane opens under the editor after a run. Its header is the Result and Plan switch, or Query result when no plan is possible, then N rows · M columns.

Result sets and run details

  • A script with several result sets shows a Result set button group, numbered 1, 2, 3. Pick one to see its rows. A statement that fails later in the script is a red banner above the rows.
  • Run details holds N notices, each prefixed Statement N, open when there are three or fewer. A PostgreSQL error shows its SQLSTATE, Detail, Hint and Context there.
  • A statement without columns says Statement completed or N rows affected. One with columns but no rows says The query returned no rows under its headers. A cancelled run says Run cancelled.

Result and Plan

Result shows the rows in the data grid, read-only. Plan opens the Plan tab for the same statement. After a failed run it reads No plan captured, after a cancelled one Run cancelled, each with Capture estimate. On Free, Plan carries a Pro badge and opens the upgrade panel.

The row cap

A result keeps at most Rows kept per result rows, 10,000 by default. Past that, a banner reads Showing the first 10,000 rows · N more were not kept., and Change limit opens the setting. The choices are 1,000, 10,000, 50,000 and 100,000. A result that grows too large in bytes stops with The result reached the size limit; later rows were not kept.

On a locked connection, a plain read outside a transaction is stopped on the server at the cap, so the total is unknown and the footer reads Row limit reached · stopped on the server after N rows. Everywhere else the rest is read and dropped.

Export and copy

  • Export rows… in the grid's more menu opens Export rows for the loaded rows, N loaded rows or N of M loaded rows, filtered. Save as writes CSV, JSON or SQL INSERT statements. CSV writes NULL as \N. Hidden columns are left out.
  • A result with values the run could not read refuses to export until that column is hidden.
  • With cells selected, Copy as… copies them as TSV, CSV, JSON, Markdown, SQL values or INSERT statements. Headers adds column names, and NULL copies as NULL or Empty.

Nothing here re-runs the query. For every row, export from a table tab, or raise the cap and run again.
