ER diagram

The ER diagram draws one schema's tables and the foreign keys between them. It is Free on all four engines.

Opening it

• Open ER diagram… (Mod-Shift-e) and pick a schema.
• Show in ER diagram on a table's toolbar, or in the explorer's table menu.
• Open ER diagram on a schema in the explorer.

What it draws

Each table shows its primary key, unique and foreign key columns. Edges carry crow's-foot cardinality. Nullable columns are marked.

Toolbar

• Columns: Keys only, Selected table, or All columns. Changing it after you dragged tables asks Reset table positions? first.
• Find table…: jumps to a table by name.
• Reset canvas: drops the positions you dragged and fits the automatic layout to the view.
• Export: opens Export diagram.
• Design changes: opens Schema designs, with New design for <schema>, Pro, and Saved designs. Each opens in the Design workbench.

Zoom sits in the status bar: Zoom out (-), the percentage, which fits the diagram when clicked, and Zoom in (+).

Inspector

Select a table:

• Object, Columns, Est. rows.
• Keys & Invariants: primary and unique keys, with Copy key constraint name.
• Relationships: each foreign key as Outbound FK, Inbound FK or Self-ref, with its Del: and Upd: rules and whether it is Validated or Deferrable. A filter narrows them by direction.
• Open table: opens its rows in a tab.

Dragged positions are kept per diagram in this computer's local storage. A diagram tab comes back after a restart, and keeps its selection, viewport and undo history while you are on another tab. If its connection or schema is gone it offers Close tab.

Export diagram

• Format: PNG, SVG or Mermaid.
• A frame on the preview sets what the image shows. Drag its handles to resize it, its tab to move it, or Shift-drag to draw a new one. The preview pans and zooms like the canvas.
• Toolbar: Fit frame, Everything, Canvas view.
• Tables: All tables or Selection. A click on a table in the preview leaves it out.
• Columns: As on canvas, Keys only or All columns.
• Theme, Aspect, Size (PNG), Padding, and Include: Transparent, Legend, Name & date.
• Mermaid adds Markdown fence, and from a design Content: Diagram or PR summary.
• Mod-Shift-c copies an image instead of saving one.
